MEDIEVAL EUROPEAN CHRISTIAN RING, SIZE 6 ¼
MEDIEVAL EUROPEAN CHRISTIAN RING, SIZE 6 ¼
SKU:C4798
Highly identifiable type popular in Northern Europe in the 15th-17th century. See Ancient Rings, Pollio, p.30. Gilt bronze, large size 6 1/4 with 2.3mm rounded face band with expanded shell form shoulders. Circular bezel with a radial motif in place of the usual stylized Star of Bethlehem. That deviation was possibly the result of the Reformation (started 1517) and a rejection of Catholic symbolism. Surface textured from burial. Professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold surface restored. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
